It's my job to give journalists, bloggers and broadcasters a helping hand when it comes to the Bible. I work for the Bible Society. My background is in PR and communications, but I also read Theology at the University of Manchester. Whether you want to know what the Bible Code is or whether there are any chavs featured in the Good Book, I'm here to help. Give me a ring on 01793 418100 or send an email to david.ashford+@biblesociety.org.uk (removing the plus symbol).
I'm the author of The Bible Style Guide, a crash course on the Bible for journalists and an occasional media commentator. However, this blog contains my own personal take on things. I'm not speaking officially on behalf of Bible Society here.
The British and Foreign Bible Society (popularly known by the shorthand ‘Bible Society’) is a charity that exists to make the Bible heard throughout the world. The majority of its work is overseas, making the Bible available in a language people can understand and at a price they can afford. Here in England and Wales, it works to build bridges between the Bible and people’s everyday lives.
The Society was founded in 1804 and is part of a world-wide federation known as United Bible Societies, which operates in more than 180 countries. Together, this global alliance distributes millions of Scriptures every year in a range of formats, which includes print, audio and even Braille.
